Meum...that's sort of my point, Jesus wouldn't have been a member of some of the groups that use his name...take heart, there are a lot of good folks out there

Good question: also consider this from Mark 10:

10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

Many people who claim that they want to "reclaim America for Christ" don't even want to give a small portion of what they have to help the poor. I doubt if they'll get on board with Jesus and sell all that they have . . .

Whether or not America is a christian nation is something that has been in dispute for many years. There are heated arguments on both sides, and the question will likely never get resolved. People often speak ill of the poor because they believe that people are poor because they are lazy, uneducated, and unmotivated. They are also angry that the poor get benefits that the taxpayers are working for. The sad reality is that for someone who is born poor, it is a much larger struggle to become successful, than it is for someone who was already born into a family that is not poor.

I beleive, which means it is my opinion, that America is a Christian Nation that has turned it's back on God. We are so full of ourselves it is ridicoulus. We lack the humility and thankfulness to call ourselves a Christian Nation. As for the poor, the poor during Christ's time and ours are two totally different animals. During Christ's time being poor was a way of life for the majority of the people living under Roman rule. There was no middle class. During our time the poor are praised for being poor, they are given plenty of opprtunties to get out of their situation and are doing it on the backs of the Middle class. They held in high esteem by the Hollywood left as being poor is a good character. Hard work and self perserverance is downplayed by the media. Remember this is just my opinion, so know that you were warned before you start sending me emails.

Is America a Christian nation? If your measuring stick is how much Americans give to the poor, I think you'll find Americans give a fair share. People in America are wealthy, compared to the rest of the world, but Americans also give more to charities around the world.

There are exceptions. No matter where you go, anywhere in the world, there are people who are selfish and greedy. America is no different. But I believe most people try to live up to their beliefs.

The country is not Christ based. It certainly doesn't follow His teachings, and lately its become important to insist that we keep our money for ourselves and let the poor starve and the sick go without medicine, all in the name of the new God, Personal Responsibility. Don't reach out your hand, don't help someone down on his luck, hide the '
least of these' under a bridge somewhere.
Through it all is the idea that it will never happen to them, they are too smart, work too hard, will never get old, have accidents or meet with any of lifes myriad hardships.
Its as unchristian as you can get.

Considering how much this nation does both private and public aid for the poor.
Since Conservative Christians give more on their own time and money.
Since I have talk to many missionaries that went to Africa to help and how when they return they find the locals do nothing.

America does make major efforts to help the poor however at sometime the poor have to stand up and start doing things on themselves.

I believe we used to be a Christian nation. As a Christian myself, I don't see the worship of the Lord like what I hear was the way things were even 40-50 years ago. That is so sad. lol

America is not and never has been a "Christian nation".

There is nothing in our Constitution that mentions Christianity.

In fact, our founders were very careful to word the Constitution in such a way that totally excludes any references to Christians and their religion.

In our country, we have freedom of religion...which only gives the right to worship as you wish - or not worship. There is nothing tying us to the Christian religion.

And, the so-called "80%" of Americans who call themselves "Christian" are full of it. Statistics and information readily available shows that not to be true.

Their "10 Commandments" are used for reference only - and they drag it out anytime they need to prove their "holiness".

first you have to consider that church and state or separate which is by design and should remain that way. I have nothing against the christian right -- after all they are entitle to their opinions.

but back to your question -- yes we all still a christian nation and will remain that for a long time.

America is not a Christian nation. It is a secular nation with a majority of Christian citizens. There's a big difference here.
