Fantastic question..... ufortunatly it is expanding into complete nothingness, and there is nothing on the other side at all, now the reason it is expanding is because of the massive amount of energy thats been created by this universe...... but be rest assured that in roughly a billion-billion years, it will start to collapse on its self again.......Whoo Hoo
one day we might understand where it is expanding to but we are only three dimentional beings, and there are 10 dimentional planes, so when we achieve that we may finally know the answer pls visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkxieS-6WuA to understand in a greater detail

These are questions scientists are still busy with. I've wondered that myself - do the three (or four or whatever) dimensions exist before the planets expand into them? How would we know if not? Is space itself also expanding? They've recently given up on the theory that the Universe expands and then contracts - it just keeps accelerating faster and faster which defies normal rules of physics. This is why I believe in devine purpose of some kind.

Space means nothing is there. Expanding may be the wrong term,as nothing was there and even if a galaxy expands in that area the space was there all the time. What causes the vacuum of space.

They are expanding the gravity in space . The gravity in space is much more different then the ones in the world . The rocks push more gravity to the space .And you know the circlees , some kind of like what the books said . How do they control the circles and keep on going ? The rocks push the gravity so the other gravity will stay in the circles .

Imagine you are a two-dimentional being living on the suface of an expanding ball. As the surface area grows, you perceive your entire universe expanding but you can't understand how, or where its expanding to, because you have no concept of 3D space.
Now raise the analogy up by one dimention. We are three-dimentional beings living on the 'surface' of a four-dimentional 'ball'. We can't understand where its expanding to as we can't conceptualise 4D space.
So there isn't an 'other side'. If you could launch into space and keep on going, you would eventually arrive back where you started!

thats one of those things our little brains will never be able to get our heads around. Space is infinite, yet the universe is finite and must end soewhere, so the universe is expanding into the empty space. Its difficult to explain because we are used to everything having a boundary, eventually you will reach an end, but there is no end it just keeps going

Surely the space is already there and matter is expanding into it so that the population density of the stars in our universe lessens over time.

It just goes back to the "you are on a balloon being inflated" analogy. And though I am no physicist by any stretch of the imagination, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the big bang was an occurrence that happened from (long) time to time like a balloon in a balloon in a balloon. But anyway check the link below.
