Is Carnegie Melon hard to get into ...the buisness part. What should I do on my application to set myself apart. Also, will people be like "wow" if I tell them I got to this school because the academics are so highly rated. Help please?

Tepper is really prestigious, in order to get in you need to have a resume and/or undergraduate transcripts that really set you apart, the essay won't matter if you don't have that already. If you do, just talk about why you want to go to CMU, i.e. what do you plan to do with your MBA. CMU likes students that are motivated and plan on doing something extraordinary after graduation. If you get in most of your friends and family will not say "wow" unless you're from Pittsburgh. The school is pretty small and most people don't really know what it is. But people in the industry do know about Tepper and you may get a wow or two. Still when you are looking at the types of jobs that Tepper students apply for, most students are in that "wow" category so its not that big of a deal. Good luck.

Carnegie Mellon is ranked #21 nationally by Business Week as a business school, so it is pretty good, but depending upon whom you are talking to, probably not good enough to elicit "wows" from people. The top 5 schools this year were Wharton (University of Pennsylvania) McIntire (University of Virginia), U.C. Berkeley, Emory, and the University of Michigan. Although one could question the rankings (and most people do), I'm not sure many people would put Carnegie Mellon into the top tier.
