I replaced the solonoid (selonoid?) and starter. It clicks but doesn't start -however radio/windows/lights all work but my motor doesn't start... I have to let it "rest" for about 30 minutes and then it will fire up again. What should I do next? Replace the cables? Battery was checked and OK. The postive cable is over $1000 because it is also the wiring harness for the car. I need a cheaper solution if that is the problem...Is there something else that could be the problem that I am overlooking?

Heat or battery voltage is your cause. You've already replaced the starter so it's not that if it was installed properly (poor shimming can cause poor alignment that could be affected by heat).. Have you checked the alternator? A good battery will build itself back up a little after sitting so if it won't start right away after a quick stop at a store you may not be getting a good charge from the alternator. If it's not the alternator or the starter (shimming) then it's got something to do with that wiring harness..

If your mechanically inclined try running a regular battery cable from the battery positive post to the large post on the solenoid. Be careful not to touch any other metal because this will spark and possibly cause a fire or melt the wire. If it's clicking your getting enough power from the harness to actuate the solenoid. If it starts hot after doing this then your harness is your problem.

You could run your own POS wire from the battery to the starter leave the Mazda cable there too. . How was the battery checked when it was hot and acting up? or after it cooled down? Sounds more like voltage drop either inside the battery or ignition signal at the solenoid is weak because of low voltage. Hook up a volt meter with long test leads right to the battery posts when the problem happens watch the battery voltage.
