Narcolepsy. It is a sleep disorder that is characterized by chronic, excessive daytime sleepiness with recurrent episodes of sleep occurring several times a day. Cataplexy ( sudden loss of muscle tone without loss of consciousness) occurs in about 3/4 of cases.Other symptoms may include sleep paralysis and vivid hallucinations at the onset of sleep or on awakening. Narcolepsy is usually inherited. Treatment usually involves regular naps, along with stimulant drugs to control drowsiness and sleep attacks and antidepressants to suppress cataplexy. I hope that this helps.

Narcolepsy, which can be a seriuos medical condition, similar to epilepsy. Falling asleep suddenly and uncontrollably could have serious repurcussions (eg, if driving a car). I think it can be controlled through medication.
