What have the dems sunk to?

George Washington. Abraham Lincoln. Franklin Roosevelt. John F. Kennedy. Ronald Reagan. Who among these men would answer, with a straight face, a question posed by a snowman?

One wonders about the seriousness of a nation that considers the YouTube debate hosted by CNN a success and a triumph. Countless commentators have fawned over how refreshing it was to replace those stuffy old reporters with videos of real people with real concerns. Michael Finnegan and Matea Gold of the LA Times gushed, "Free-wheeling video questions from ordinary citizens put a fresh spark into the staid ritual of presidential debates this week, with everything from a talking snowman to a guy cradling a rifle he called 'my baby'." The reporters then said the debate was more like American Idol than Meet the Press. The implication was that this is a good thing.

BarB....it will be interesting to see if ANY of the candidates will answer the hardball questions or allow themselves to be cornered by someone who will ask the hardball questions...but I do think the republican candidates will allow such questions more then the dems....

There is an old expression that, for all his faults, President Nixon understood well: "Familiarity breeds contempt". For this reason, Nixon insisted that everyone, even in private, refer to him as "Mr. President". He did not want to allow people to start getting too personal with him, and in the process stop showing proper respect.

The Democrats have gone the other direction. They have thrown away all pretense of formality and dignity. They are answering questions from snowmen. They post questions right here on this venue. Can you imagine Ronald Reagan sinking that low?

Someone who runs for President should maintain some level of formality. These people are seeking the highest office of the land, and arguably the most powerful position on earth. But the Democrats are so busy trying to look and act like the "average Joe" so much that they are destroying the very image one needs to be a good President. A President needs a certain mystique about him. It's not like you are going to chat with him like the corner butcher. There is an etiquette and formality which should be adhered to.

I don't begrudge these people their rightful place in office, which considering their skill, experience, judgment, and wisdom should qualify them to greet visitors, and distribute guest passes at the White House, but nothing more.

I think the whole YouTube thing was complete and utter nonsense.

Fortunately, the campaign for President hasn't started yet. That won't happen until all those egotistic "wannabes" drop out and go home - or wherever they came from. Right now, it is only theater and entertainment for Boobus Americanus. I guess it's better than watching the crapola that passes for television entertainment today.

Once the Iowa Caucuses get closer, the "spoilers" will drop out and only the viable candidates will left. THAT'S when the campaigns begin.

I don't even bother with all this "debate" stuff at this time. No serious candidate is going to lay out their platform or political agenda in the atmosphere of a Carnival, mediated by "Happy the Clown". Until the serious candidates can begin to address the very urgent and serious issues facing our country, it is not worthwhile listening to these ridiculous television things.

Not involved with either of the two parties or any other party for that matter but it would seem that 2008 could be a big year for the Dems. That said, they can't seem to get there house in order and instead seem to be running around like a bunch of chickens with there heads cut off. Difficult to see any Democrat emerging from the current idol pool to be a legitimate candidate for president of the United States.

Wellll....if the snowman was wearing a blond wig and red lipstick, JFK might have enjoyed talking to him. Please stop pulling your hair out my brother. The libs are childish. It's so scary to think about what will happen to us all after the election, given the damage we know a democrat will do in these crucial times. Lord help us all.

Name one thing democrats are debating or thinking about doing that has any merit whatsoever? Seriously? If a guy offered you a $100 bill on the street if you could name one, what would you say?

Border? nope.
Immigration? nope
National security? hell no
Terrorism? no
minimum wage? no
taxes? no
healthcare reform? ya right!
getting God back into the classroom if people want? no
abortion? no

Im drawing a blank here Pal. Help me out.

How different was it really. Instead of a stuffy moderator asking the question, they had the stuffy moderator screen the questions and the candidates were left free to dodge the questions as they always do.

Its pointless because I know we who ever we elect will be a parrot speaking and doing what they were put there to do by those they were bought by. Since the only two games in politic & the USA is money and power what else can we expect. How much money is each person in the USA worth in a life time, they care about their survival not yours, they just need you to survive

I thought it was a good format. Unfortunately we got the same old responses. How the candidates share their answers is what should be the focus of change.

It was just another means of trivializing and degrading the important matters at hand.

I thought it meaningless.

I brought that point up before. And today it seems that liberals will believe any gibberish that they see or hear on the Internet as long as its far left hogwash.
