I am 52 yrs old. I've just finished HP7. At various times I have had as many as (at one time I had 15 books from my library/10 on hold) 4/5 books that I'm reading at the same time. I am a voracious reader. I have been since the 3rd grade when I first discovered the power of the written word.
And since my place of work is under reconstruction due to a fire I now have more time for more reading.

I'm 41. Every two weeks I go to the library and get ten books. I usually have them all read by the time I bring them back to the library. I have 3 kids and work about 60 hours a week. Needless to say, I do not sleep a lot. I love to read. I stay up late to read, wake up in the middle of the night and read and get up early for work so I have time to read. It is a way for me to relax.

Per week, I can manage up to a book a day. My strategy is to read everywhere. On the bus and train, to and from work, waiting in line, and don't laugh, but in the bathroom too.

If you really want to learn to read fast, just keep at it. Better yet learn how to speed read, which just teaches you to glance over the small words and concentrate on the words that give meaning to the story.

It's not that I read fast, although I did read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows in 15hrs, minus breaks, from 9am when I bought it, to 1:15am on Sunday morning.

I think it's a matter of making the time to read, and the fact that you want to read faster is a great start. So good luck, and whatever you do keep reading.

I`m 26 years old, permanently employed, and still studying. I menage to read one novel a week. I have to say, that, when I was 14-18, I read almost 4 novels a week. But, then, I lived in a small town, and had no obligations at home. I went to school and had my piano lessons, but still had a lot of free time. I wasn`t much of a sport type, and my friends were tolerant towards my attitude, or my dressing style (must I say I was a fashion disaster?).
Now, I live in a city, work 8 hours a day, travel 60-70 minutes to work and fro, and finish my law studies. I don`t read as much as I would like, or as much as I could, because I`ve discovered new things in life - internet, soccer games on TV (I`m hooked on Bayern Munich`s team), cafes, dance, cooking for myself (preparing my grand`s dishes), news magazines and things like that.
Of course, my home is still a mess.
As for the books I read, I`ll skip my study books (as I do whenever I can), and say that I prefer reading old authors, like Russian classics, or Sartre, or Marques, because I believe that European literature is somewhat better than American or English (apart from Dickens and Poe, who I enjoy reading in original, because I`m not a native English speaker). Lately, I`ve discovered beautifful world of Chinese and Japanese novels, like "Plum`s flower in golden vase" or "The last Chinese Emperess" or the works of Kenzeburo Oe.

Generally about a book a week, sometimes it takes me longer. Right now the only book I'm reading is a text book for computer certification, but I enjoy fiction as well. I'm 40 years old.

I tend to read 3 or 4 books at a time - fiction and non-fiction. The subjects vary wildly:) I know some people who don't read any books! Ever! Now that is difficult to understand!

I'm 35 by th way.

I've got a funny situation. I'm 30 and since jr. high I use to read a book a day, but since changing careers this year and becoming a librarian, I'm lucky if I can now get through a book a week.

i usually read 3 a week. i'm 15. I get really good books that i cant put down. Don't get books that dont interest you, make sure its on a topic you like. Also if its raining outside, or something like that books are a great thing to keep you occupied.

I'm 32, a published author and I read 2/3 books each week.

It's very important for writers to read as often as they can.
