There are a number of possibilities that could be causing the warning in your case including:

1. If you try to shut down Windows while another profile is still open
2. If you are on a home or business network and others are accessing your files
3. If you have a wireless network that is not secure and a neighbor or drive-by hacker is connected to your system

If you don’t need to share files or printers with anyone else on your network, you can try disabling this option to play it safe.

Open Control Panel / Network Connections, then double click on your Local Area Connection and then click the properties button. Remove the checkmark from the box in front of File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks. If you have a wireless network and have not activated the encryption, I would highly recommend that you do (usually referred to as WEP or WAP).

If you are still getting the warning, you have likely installed a program or utility that is opening system files that are not associated to your Profile.

If this is a home computer, how many users are there to the one computer? It sounds like somebody used it previously but did not log off or turn the computer on so although yoy may have logged in yourself, somebody else is still logged in also.

That's about when other people are logged in the computer you're using. That message appears when they might forget to log out before letting you use the computer.

Do you have more than one "acccount" on your puter. LIke when I got my new one,my puter friend set up the "Admin" acct. so I could log in as ADmin and only in the program makes big changes. then I could log into my personal acct and work. I had to make sure I was logged out of both. And another word of advice, any time you log into a site ALWAYS LOG OUT BEFORE YOU LEAVE SO YOU DON'T LEAVE YOU INFO OUT THERE , like ebay, paypal, banking online etc. And if you have more than one person using the puter, then you may have more than one acct open.

this happens if you have other users logged in locally say if your using the desktop switching with more hten one user.

It can also happen if people are using a file share or printer share from another computer on your network.
