It is nearly impossible. The P3-700MHz is fade out. You can upgrade the PC using a INTEL Core 2 Duo with P35 chip set motherboard. Even you buy the relative component from the market, it may be second hand products with some of trouble. To avoid the troubleshooting, buy a new PC is a smart choice. Especially, the PC components has reduced the cost in retail. You may just spent US$480 for enjoy the new technology. Buy a new one is better choice than upgrade a must.

As everyone else has suggested, you could replace your motherboard, processor, memory, video card, power supply, etc to get your upgrade to work, but that can lead to alot of expense and time you didn't really want to incur. The Pentium 3 line is a 370 pin processor, when Intel released the Pentium 4 series initially, it was a 478pin, so these won't work with your motherboard, today's standards for Pentium 4, Celeron, Core Solo, Core Duo, Core 2 Duo processors are all 775 pin, so these aren't compatible either.

Now that I have shown you all that isn't compatible, let's try answering your more immediate needs and show you an upgrade you can still do. Here is a link to a NEW P3 1.4ghz processor, which basically doubles your existing processing power probably without even updating your motherboard bios. You sure can! But because the Pentium III is older CPU, you will have to get yourself a new motherboard as well if you want to upgrade to a really new CPU such a Core 2 Duo. :)

Pentium III is way too old. Time to get a new system... Beside, it wont be easy to find those parts and some may be even more expensive than current one.

with a old processor you are normall best to upgrade the montherboard processor and memory together.

If you have a old system the motherboard is not likley to support new CPUs or memory. its not as expensive as you might think do upgrade all 3
