fans have bearings and bearings go bad .Dust in the system also will cause a fan to become loud. is it your power fan or the cpu fan making this noise? either way take a vacuum with a soft brush attachment and vacuum the dust out of the inside of the puter and away fron the fan. if it is the fan on the processor making alot of racket replace it they are only 15.00. if removing the dust doesnt help and its the power supply fan you will need to replace the power supply. about 40-45 dollars

Dust is a major problem. If you have any computer knowledge and feel comfortable doing so. Remove the cover and unplug the fan. remove the fan and place some oil in the center (you may have to peel back a sticker to get to where the oil goes). The fan could die today or last another yr, either way oil will hush it up for now.

The most common thing that causes that problem is that the fan collects dust over time, and eventually starts to wear out because of it. Or, they can just wear out on their own even if it's not for dust.
Anyway, you could just pick up a new one online. Even a good one will only run you about $10 or so. Just make sure you get the right size (80mm, 120 mm, etc). :)

All of these answers will fix your problem, I suggest you try the cheap route first-get your vacuum cleaner out and use it to clean every opening in the PC. If the noise is constant the fan is probably (not always) shot. If it comes and goes it is probably dust. If it is dust you will eventually need a new fan. Your PC sucks air in through vents, the CD/DVD, floppy drives, old screw holes, etc. Vacuum everything out.
And please, don't use canned air-it just pushes the dust into the PC.

Fans are mechanical with little bearings. Those sometimes just wear out and the fan will start getting noisy. Replace it and you will be fine.

It's an electric motor and mechanical devices can and do break sometimes so I would think it might be time to replace the motor or take it in and have it checked if you can't do it yourself.
