The further we look out into the universe the more of it we create.

No one has got to the edge of the universe even theoretically..... yet one thing that is apparent is that it is expanding continuously.... which is possible only if it has finite dimensions which in turn means that it must have an edge or boundary.... that would be the limits for this universe even though as time is passing, this boundary is moving further away from us due to expansion.

However, if it is a physical edge, then there must be something beyond the universe.... now anything and everything is defined as part of the universe... it then leads to an erroneous conclusion that the universe has a boundary but there are parts of it outside its own boundary. That is certainly fallacious.

Therefore the only conclusion I feel possible that can appeal as right to our mind is that..... this boundary which limits the universe or makes it finite, is not a physical boundary... it must be a virtual boundary, meaning the limits of its influences such as gravity, energy, matter etc. In that case we can imagine that even though the Universe is finite with limits or virtual boundary, there is 'nothing' beyond the universe.

I hope I have been able to put my own view and belief in a reasonably lucid manner.

Thanks for a great question.

The fate of the universe is determined by the density of the universe. The preponderance of evidence to date, based on measurements of the rate of expansion and the mass density, favors a universe that will not collapse.
Click on source, then go to Theories about the end of the universe.
Personally, I believe in the Big Crunch theory, that the average density of the universe is enough to stop it's expansion and begin it's contracting, at some point.

If you're speaking of the universe that we live in...sure, there's a whole lot of limitations: have to go to school...then work to pay the rent, taxes...feed and clothe the kids...look after them till they are all grown up and they never seem to grow up.
