or should I wait till something better comes along or the price drops.

S939 processors are no longer in production. Few remaining stocks are with distributors and retailers. You might have great difficulty finding brand new ones by Xmas.

Well nothing better is going to be coming along for socket 939, so if you are determined to keep 939, I guess go with it, but I really wouldn't recommend it. You can get a 6000+ for socket AM2, which is faster than the one you have selected, for about $170. This is what happens when you have old technology, stuff gets in short supply and prices go up. Socket 939 is really dead, since it only supports DDR memory, and the standard now is DDR2, and the transition is slowly beginning to DDR3.

You'd probably be better off getting something better, since that generation is no longer being made. Go with something more recent and it will last you longer.
