The interesting thing about the Integrated resort idea is Singapore will have two theme parks competing against each other so the prices will have to be competitive and the entertainment side strive to maintain an edge.

The government determines the payout percentage for Slots, or Fruit Machines as their called in Singapore, so the gambler knows he will have the same advantage anywhere.

There will be a loss to many of the Private Clubs that depended on the Slot's for much of their operating costs. There was a tremendous squeeze in the 87 financial crisis when the number of players dropped substantially.

There will be a tremendous benefit to the Government if the Development Charge of 50% of Final Value is applied. That alone would be Billions of dollars.

Imagine 7% of the daily revenue of the IR's let alone the Casinos! There will be other tax revenues as well so financially the government will benefit.

necessary evil. it gives employment to many and destroy some, maybe not many lives. there are various safeguards agst losers / gambli-holics even in vegas where the gaming addicts are not allowed in. so dont worry abt gambling spreading. the greater good seems to be better. of course lilfe is like this - win some lose some. definitely few individuals / families will be wrecked, even without casinos as gambling is everywhere
