There are several techniques to knit buttonholes, often involving how large a button you have. The simplest one is simply a yarn over, work the next two stitches together. This works for relatively small buttons (in relation to the type of yarn you are using). For larger buttonholes, you knit to the edge of the buttonhole for placement, bind off two to four stitches, turn the work, and knit on the same number of stitches cast off and work back over the rest of the button band.

Or do a search yourself.
