You are funny. Are you asking how long can you stretch your luck? All kidding aside, you need to fix that NOW before long. I wouldn't even drive to the mechanic but have it towed.
I once saw a magazine article where they really wanted to see what happens when a car is driven with no engine oil (car mag). So they drove a BONE DRY engine and it went 500 miles. It was everybody's surprise that a bone dry engine can last that long. But remember that engine was COMPLETELY destroyed with no hopes of repair.

As to your engine, it all depends on how low is your oil pressure. If it is REALLY low - like ZERO then you can say about 500 miles above. If it is only little bit low, then you probably have thousands of miles left. But why take the chance?
It may be that you just have low oil level and may not even require any fix. Most of the time oil pumps can be swapped out from the bottom with out the engine removal (few hundred dollars at most). But once the engine goes bad,
forgetaboutit!
Good Luck and be safe.

If you're willing to try this I hope that you have money to buy a new engine as this one will seize up and no longer run. You can probably get a used engine for around $800 (give or take a couple $100). Oil is detrimantal to a car's engine as it keeps all parts lubricated and running smoothly. Regular oil changes are a must not just adding oil "whenever". I suggest using a Slick 50 treatment if you're one to forget about your oil.
In answer to your question, I would assume that each car is different. It depends on how much abuse the engine has already taken and how old it is.

Depending on your driving change it every 1500 to 2000 miles if all your are doing is city driving and 3000 to 5000 all highway, and the most important thing check your oil level on your dipstick regularly. As long as your level is fine and have oil pressure you should be fine. also use a better oil filter like a K&N which has a better lower micron rating than your typical oil filters. The secret to lubrication is the filtration as you will gain longer life from day 1 of installation. Maintain good practices and you will see longivity in this arena. I myself would avoid any additives like Slick 50 but this is your rig.

it depends on how much oil you actually have left in the engine. and how many miles did you drive with the light on...check your oil every 2-3 weeks to avoid this problem. after adding the required amount of oil, the light should go off, if not, have the oil pressure checked, as it could be a faulty oil pump.Good Luck !!
