My favorite is when American bands sing with inexplicable British accents and, for that matter, vice versa. Find me a band that sounds more American than the Rolling Stones. Can't do it.

Rock music is sort of essentially American. Other people do it well and, arguably better in some cases, in other parts of the world. But it developed in the US for some very particular reasons. It seems natural that some international bands would select American English to write and perform their songs: people are working within an existing idiom. No body says they have to, and there's no reason to get, from an American perspective, all nationalistic about it. No "you people ought respect American music by recording in English" or similar nonsense. But it's fine.

Also, I have a certain love for bands who write about, say, Texas without having ever been their. There's something so interesting about having your home treated as exotica, about seeing it through different eyes.

I love Mew, and I am not sure what I would think of them in Danish... I also love WIthin Tempation and don't think I would connect so much with the music if they sang only in Dutch.
Music is great, but I want to understand the lyrics. I don't see a problem with a group writing in a language that reaches a much larger audience.

The Scorpions couldn't speak English for years during the 80's. Didn't seem to hurt them none, but their MTV interviews sure were funny. Singing by phonetics. Go figure...
