It depends on what you mean:
It can be 3 categories:
On-play participants: those who play on the field (eg cricket/football/hockey: 11)
On-play plus subs: those who play on field plus substitutors (eg football: 16)
Total: those who play plus substitues plus those signed by club/team (countless)
Therefore be particular in ur answer.
But the least in sports like curling, badminton, tennis, table tennis.
Tennis has just 1 player (who plays for himself/herself not for team) who combines with another similar sex (female n female to play women doubles or males n males to play men's doubles) or with other partner (mixed doubles).
But tennis players play fro their country in Federations Cup. But still they are the least with 4-5 players at the max.
