Hollywood has taken a liking to making movies out of books. If a book does well, Hollywood will probably go after it--they are running out of ideas. But is it a very good idea?

Look at Eragon. That was the worst book-to-movie experience of my life. Whatever y'all think, I despised it.

Harry Potter--not too bad, but they definitely have room for improvement. They just don't have the art of capturing the spirit of the book while keeping it at a reasonable length, mastered.

One of the best adaptations I've seen is Pride and Prejudice--the new one. I've read the book twice, and I've seen the movie like eighty times. The spirit, power and romance of the book was so wonderfully captured in the movie, I watch it whenever I can. Another good one is Count of Monte Cristo

So what do you think? Is Hollywood losing its touch?

I personally don't believe Hollywood ever had "its touch" when it came to creating movies adaptations for books. There always seems like there is something missing.

Hollywood has only just now taken a liking in making books into movies? Hollywood and the movie industry has been doing that for over a hundred years. 1902 saw the release of the French silent film "Le Voyage de Gulliver à Lilliput et chez les géants" which is an adaptation of "Gulliver's Travels." A silent film adaption of "Alice in Wonderland" was released in 1903. 1903 also saw a silent film adaptation of "Unlce Tom's Cabin." The movie industry has always turned to books and fairy tales for movie ideas, and it always will.

The problem with books into movies is that anyonen who have read a book has an idea of how the movie should be. Thus you cant satisfie everyone. Another problem is that you cant take a book and turn it into a movie straight away. You have to rewrite it and thus killing someones holy cows. Most of the books also contain so much that a direct movie have to be more than a couple of hours. Johan

yes, hollywood has lost its touch. it is all about being under 25 today, it seems. people used to care more about quality than about how cute and young you looked, but now you have people who are afraid to have expressions on their faces because they might not look as beautiful.
people used to appreciate creativity, so they did much better. now they want everything to be easy to do.
and i'm not old or something, i'm under 18, but i really like seeing old movies so much better than anything new!

That, and it's giving crazy people a lot of ideas on how to commit crime and get away with it, and just ideas on types of crimes to commit...It's scary.
