In 1966 the US government purchased steel from Communist China to build facilities in Vietnam.
Also in 1966 Dow Chemical purchased millions of tons of Magnesium (for aircraft parts etc.) from the USSR...you know the "commies".
Also that year the US government purchased hundreds of thousands of tons of bagged concrete (for construction in South Vietnam)...from NORTH VIETNAM.
This is according to articles in the Washington Post.
Guess who the main contractor (no bid contracts of course) for construction in South Vietnam was...ever heard of KELLOG-BROWN and ROOT aka KBR? Yes the one in the same KBR doing all the construction in Iraq now.
So exactly who were we fighting in Vietnam?
Or was it just a big farce to suck money out of Americans pockets into the elitists pockets that still profit from war?
So we have to "fight them there so we don't have to fight them here"? Yeah they said that during Vietnam too!
No wonder PT Barnum loved this country so much.

bravozulu were you even alive during Vietnam? Because I WAS and I distinctly remember the whole "domino effect" doctrine that "if we don't stop them there we'll end up fighting the commies here" BS! You know the "commies" we were buying materials from.

Peter S Who pushed the war? The same right wing wacko crooks from Texas that are in the current "Vietnam" that's who. They don't care as long as they make a profit.

I was there. From where I stood, the enemy was the commies. The communists were the bogey man all my young life. I volunteered to go. Twice. I came home to a very different America than the one I left from. I watched the war drag on and on. I observed the government refuse to allow us to win. I watched as our politicians allowed China and Russia to fight us from the weeds, without doing a thing about it. I learned a little about the history of Indo-China. I watched our protesters protest for the wrong reasons and do it the wrong way. I realized many people were making large fortunes off the war and that they controlled the government. I came to the conclusion that ending the war meant ending those profits. I saw the extreme left gain a foothold in this country that they would never have gotten had it not been for LBJ's conflict. I watched Jane Fonda commit treason against America and never get called on it. And I hope and pray that Johnson and McNamara and a few others burn in hell for what they did.
And now I see it all happening again. For the same reasons. Profit and power.

Once Abu Ghraib hit the news we lost our moral high ground. We can still win this war but the outcome hangs on a razors edge. Since our media is only concerned with selling stories and air time this puts us at a disadvantage as stories of our troops mistreating prisoners while isolated and remote, is extremely reprensible. The military should have been allowed handle the problem inhouse and away from the prying eyes of the public until appropriatly severe punishment had been administered. But hey CNN wanted to sell airtime and they played right into the terrorists hands. Just my humble opinion A.C.

PT Barnum also said there was a sucker born every minute and from the answers I do believe that, some one said once I think Napoleon I sought the enemy and found him it was us, our politicians would not ever learn to tell the truth even if it meant it would look better for them, ,

No, you see, we have all these soldiers laying around with nothing to do, so we send them into a jungle and give them some sense of purpose. Honestly, what kind of country would we be if we didn't have a few thousand dead soldiers to boast about?

Sadly the troops would say their own people who spat on and abused the soldiers returning from Nam, many who had lost limbs and been injured. A shame many Americans feel to this day!
