Hmm, hypocrisy is a huge theme in "The Scarlet Letter" by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The preacher (Dimmesdale) is the epitome of a hypocrite, enjoying high status in Puritan society while keeping hidden the dark secrets of his past.

I'm not sure but in "Snow Falling on Cedars" by David Guterson, two lovers of different races are torn apart in a society of white residents and a smaller Japanese community as well. Both sides are racist and discriminate against the other. The white people with their prejudices and racist anti-Japanese laws during the War and the Japanese residents who prejudiced themselves against the "evil" white people. During the book a Japanese woman says that white men have fetishes over rice skinned Japanese girls and the white people look more harshly to a Japanese man in trial.
