IMO, it depends on what you consider "great."

The Ramones and The Sex Pistols embodied the spirit and image of punk better than just about any other band.

The Clash were arguably the most musically talented punk band of all time. They could write and play as well as anyone, *and* they could appeal to the mainstream without selling out.

For sheer agression and catharsis, no one will ever top Minor Threat. They played fast and hard, and when you listened to them you could just rage along and let go of everything in your life that was p***ing you off.

I would say dead boys, bad brains, or subhumans. Or stiff little fingers. Hmm. to many good ones, oh Fear, black flag, X, DI, Circle Jerks, were also great.

PS Blink 182 is a pop/rock band.

iIt would have to be THE SEX PISTOLS THIS GROUP GROUP MADE UP OF JOHNNY ROTTON=STEVE JONES =PAUL COOK= AND SID VISIOUS THIS PUNKgroup was formed in 1975 and they provocative and influentail WHICH I BELIEVE POPULARISED PUNK. The Sex Pistols really made Punk Music come alive with songs like Anarchy in the U.K= God Save The Queen = and they even recorded a song that Ronald Biggs , {the train robber ] wrote called " No One Is Innocent" AND WHAT about their albums , 1977 . "Never Mind The Bollocks Here Is The Sex Pistols" made number 1 in the l.p charts and stayed in the l.p charts for 54 weeks=Then the wrote the FILM SOUNDTRACT called "THE GREAT ROCK.N.ROLL SWINDLE" THE L.P that got them into a lot of TROUBLE was called "Kiss This" not many radio stations would play this L.P because of the EXPLICITE SEX WORDS IN IT .
