Are "Perverted Justice" and Dateline's "To Catch a Predator" attempting to fight an evolutionary imperative?

Question

In our modern culture, with its particular sexual mores
(which are basically watered-down VICTORIAN mores,
which were not based on logic or practicality, but superstition)
older men "getting it on" with younger teenage girls isn't considered kosher. (And from my standpoint, it isn't what floats MY boat either.)
However, trying to stop adult men from going after
young girls is a hopeless cause. Why?
Because for tens of thousands of years, it was the OLDER
MEN who ended up boinking the nubile young girls! And society APPROVED! After all, think of a typical ancient culture. A man who lived into, say, his 40s was clearly no wimp.
Indeed, he was likely one hell of a hunter and/or warrior to have survived that long! Instinctively, young women would be attracted to his healthy, strong genetic stock (which were reflected culturally in his reputation and status.)
Times have changed - people haven't. And so, we will see
this "problem" endure for all time, no matter what Dateline
has to say.

So, these poor chumps you see on "To Catch
A Predator" will have their day again, I'm sorry
to say. They were just born in the "wrong" era, in a roughly 200-year slice of history we call "modern society," when we had technology to make living easy, and the leisure time to come up with complicated notions of sexual morality. Those that come after them, however, won't have this problem. (Just as they didn't have it for millennia in the past!)

No, I'm not saying that it's a good thing.
In our current culture, it is entirely
non-productive and leads to emotional
trauma to the girl/boy involved ("what did
I do wrong" being the worst of these.)
But it IS nature's imperative, and barring
genetic manipulation on a massive scale,
you aren't going to root it out. Just as we
will always have wars, we will always have
"perverts" (normal guys, in ancient cultures.)
Trying to deal with them as "sick" or "defective" isn't going to work. Certainly what
"Dateline" is doing is mere mercenary exploitation and profiteering. (And does that not also reflect poorly on America's collective morality, that we are WATCHING this media travesty and egging it on..?)

I like that you bring in America's puritanical/victorian moraes that exists still despite this country's mindless oversexualization. Its always interesting to ponder and you raised valid points.

I personally don't think its a biological imperative, but a conditioned sickness. And the pervs almost always share the same traits. Nerdy loners who have no relationships with older women because they have no suaveness or ability to talk to women, so they situate their sexual passions onto pubecents, thinking that they are suave by virtue of their years. I find it more of a reflection of men who are unable to assert their dominance in their lives and need young women to feel dominant. When you absolutely cannot stay away from teenagers, that is a mental problem, not a biological imparative. In the ancient times you named, I think more of it had to do with the long cultural phenom of men being visual creatures and their idea that the younger a woman was the better she looked.

In the past, people assumed girls in the first stages of puberty were nubile, when that was incorrect. A 13 year old does not have the complete sexual maturity needed for childbirth, such as the flaring hips and full developed pelvis. The mortality rate during childbirth was enormous then.

So yes, I do think its an absolute problem when men cannot stay away from young girls. I don't think its a hopeless cause to get these pervs off the street, because they need consequences to their behavior. There are too many men that don't want little girls for me to think its just biologically instinctual.

So, older men preying upon younger boys and girls could be a good thing?

Things were a bit different during the "hunter-gatherer" times you speak of. Because then it was a matter of survival of the clan and species. We don't face that sort of thing now.

The reason older men go after younger boys and girls is not because they are strong, but because they are weak. Adult relationships are too intimidating for them, so they seek someone they can manipulate and control.
That's not good for anyone.

You are right. But you could say the same thing for monogamy. A relationship is only supposed to last three years, the time it takes for the woman to become pregnant until the baby learns to walk on its own. Then she is on to the next guy.

Well I love watching that show. Every time they catch one of thoughs pervs, I get so excited, I start laughing. Especially when they guys start crying. And this last one where the guy passed out.........I almost died.......I laughed so dang hard, I don't have much of a problem when I see the 18 or 19yr old. which is bad.............but dang these 30 and 40 and 50 yr. olds.......and older?????????..........give me a break.............The dang pervs....they all deserve to go to jail.........And to stay there to.

i'm guessing you don't have a daughter do you? have you ever spoken to a woman who was molested when she was younger? it ruins thier lives! they won't trust men again especially around thier own children. it also causes in many cases severe psychological disorders. imagine if it was your pride and joy, your little girl and some jerk worms his way into her pants! you would want to kill him! the fact that anyone could even think that this should be socially acceptible sickens me to my core and anyone who does this should be put in prison for life!
