As far as I'm aware, there is no single cause of depression for anyone. However, there seems to be a greater risk of depression if a person's parents or grandparents suffered from it.
Here's the thing. Depression - real depression, not just the off day or two - is an actual illness. It's not like being completely wacko; more like a mental cold. If someone is aware of it and knows a few ways to combat it, they can recover without any professional help. For other people, it comes and goes throughout their lifetime. And some people end up taking meds for a few months and it goes away. Anyway, like a cold, it can hit anybody, any time.

I have been suffering from post partum depression for the past one year when I gave birth to a baby boy. I couldn't stop thinking about how my husband loves him more than me and how things might be better if he wasn't born at all. Thus, I stayed away from him because I knew that I might do something I will regret for the rest of my life.
Almost instantly I went to a therapist and convince them that I need help. Among other things, I've tried herbal supplements and other book to treat depression but nothing works like the Depression Free Method. So now I'm proud to say I'm one of the happiest mother in the world. My husband loves us both very much and I thank the Lord for the blessing he gave us.
Depression Free Method?

How about all of the above? Mostly, as teenagers, engaging in the first serious relationships of your lives tend to have significant effects on what you do and how you feel. I guess, you can label it as home life, or pressures from peers, but it's more complex than that. I think it's the new, and daunting task of dealing with people and the world.

a BUNCH of stuff. letting the sadness overwhelm you, even when it's not that big of a deal, turns into a black hole of depression. even the slightest thing could set you off. i never had full suicidal thoughts, but i was depressed for a bit; still am sometimes. it's the feeling of not being accepted, sometimes, the feeling of being too loved (weird one), the feeling of not being competent enough... the feeling of.. too many hings! it depends..
