The spacecraft does a de-orbit burn, which slows it down slightly so that it will re-enter the atmosphere. Atmospheric braking finishes the job.

The best thing for you to do is do an internet search on "rocketry," or "re-entry from orbit," or go to www.nasa.gov and look around for their information pages on how spacecraft and space missions work.
