If you have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, you may want to consider seeing an MD who also practices alternative and/or complimentary medicine. I'd get a FULL (not just TSH) thyroid panel so that you can determine where you are out of balance (T3, T4, etc.). You may also want to add a full hormone panel to determine if you are out of balance (estrogen, testosterone, etc.)

I suggest tests as a basis for beginning treatment because treating the thyroid, in your case, to speed it up, can affect so many other bodily functions (brain, heart, etc.), if not treated correctly. Your doc, naturopath, etc. can run the tests.

Once you've pinned the source of in-balance, your doc may recommend iodine supplements, a detox program, L-Carnitine, as well as other supplements, and a thyroid supplement to help yours better function. Ask your doc about an Armour Thyroid, as opposed to synthetic versions...I think some are Synthroid, Lyvoxil, etc. However, keep in mind that the synthetic supplements may be best for YOU....Be active and involved in your treatment plan.

Some things you can do until you meet with your doc....take things to perhaps speed up your metabolism, like green tea, ginseng, avoid caffeine as it has a direct effect on estrogen, etc.

Good luck!

Thyrosoothe is a good one for over active thyoid sufferers. You should consult with a homeopthic doc. or herbalist before trying anything though. Also, I'd advise to research why you're having trouble. If you can get to the root of the problem you may be able to eliminate using anything at all. Healing and curing is possible, keep searching your area for wellness centers and homeopaths for guidance.

broccoli ,kale and cabbage block the uptake of iodine so the thyroid has no choice but to "slow down" and produce less hormones.
