The Iraq Study Group had some excellent suggestions. It was composed of a bipartisan group of experts. I say we follow that.

Ask the CIA.
They said Bin Laden was in Pakistan, later pretty much everyone else agreed.
They said that invading Iraq when we did would strengthen Al-Quaeda and get them started there. They were right.
___
My plan would be this though:
Begin pull out-tell no one-utilize WWII laws about discussing miliary movements and such (I'll allow people to get away with most things, but not endangering our troops just to show off that they know stuff).
Stop arming everyone! Specifically the people we were fighting a month ago. That is what got us into this mess in the first place. Training and arming 3rd world armies does not make them like us, it makes them shoot us once the more pressing enemies are gone.
Tell Iraqi gov't that they have two options: 1. Stop taking breaks and just screwing around, do their jobs, place more responsibility on their soldiers
Or option 2. Gov't continues to not bother trying at anything. US will gather up every gun that can be found that we gave out and leave the area. If the Iraqi gov't is not willing to do their part, the US cant do anything. At this point it would be best to focus out efforts on both Pakistan (to potentially find Bin Laden and to clean out the insane terror training areas) and Afganistan. Normally I would be against a two front war, but Pakistan if done properly wont take long, and the area in question is so much smaller than Iraq that far fewer soldiers would be needed which would free up soliders to finish the job we started years ago in Afganistan.
If the gov't is willing to go for option 1, then establish a small base for special forces deployment in the area (real use is to destroy Iraqi gov't if they turn on us and it becomes essential, but only if it is essential, not to be destroyed for being friends with a Communist country or anything of the like). Require that those soliders (who will be special forces or specifically trained troops only so that we ensure a certain moral fiber-Im tired of hearing stories of our troops shooting innocents and such. We need the goodwill of the people in the area, the best way to get that is send over guys who will impress and who can be trusted to always act with honor and dignity (Afterall, there will be few enough of them that it is likely they will be recognized out of uniform, so they will always be held to the standards of conduct that apply when in Class A Uniform). Swap out soldiers very frequently to avoid issues with them being in unwelcome area for very long (look at setup of Israeli army for how to do this as they are masters of it). Secret provisions would be made for the inserted special forces troops to have access to virtually everything in the country so that if the gov't is taken over or turns, a quick fix could be done with minimal loss of US solider life (and hopefully minimal loss of life in general).
Once all of that is setup, bring over CIA agents to train both US soldiers in the area if needed (these guys should know everything that might be relevant, nothing should be held back from them since their job may well be to overthrow an entire country in a couple hours), and to train the Iraqi army regulars-no training of militias should ever be done. Army must have allegiance sworn to country or constitution, not religion, specific leader, or anything else.
Of course, before anything is done this plan would be run by the CIA to get their advice on the issue. They have proven time and again that they understand the Middle East better than the FBI and definately better than the military, Congress and President. Their skills should be utilized-they are the authority, not Dick Cheney.

Stop buying oil. Start mass manufacturing electric cars. Scoff all you want, but the war costs what, 2 billion a week. I think its possible. How would anyone in the middle east buy wmds if they had no money. That goes for Iran as well.

Make a deal with Iran. They can have Iraq, if they stop building nukes, and let inspectors in to verify. After we make sure there is no Nukes, pick up all our men in Iraq and go home. I said to pick up our people, I didn't say anything about taking our weapons home. Do you know the cost of shipping rifles and rocket launchers back to the US.
Watch TV on how the Iranians are doing with their occupation.
Wh do people forget about the last days of CLinton. Oil prices skyrocketed at the end of the CLinton administration. That's one of the reason Gore lost votes. SOme of the liberals here claimed it was some Saudi plot to get Bush elected.

Get out! We are accomplishing nothing there but getting people pissed and our troops killed for nothing.
I could care less if Exxon picks up oil from Iraq! Gas was $1.46 a gallon when Bush was elected!

I have a damned good suggestion, turn our men loose and let them win this damned war give them the weapons and freedom they need and within 60 days we will have obama and his gang of cutthroats either killed or captured , then we can leave Iraq in a more mellow mood , if Iran, Syria, or who ever gets in the way move them as we did in WW11, we can't and won't win this P,C, war never have and never will,

Call up all active duty, reserve military personnel from all branches of service that are available and head to Iraq. Use the Iraqi Army and the U.S. military to secure the entire border allowing nothing to come in or go out. Use the Army \ Marines to search building to building confiscating all weapons and capturing/killing all insurgents/resistors with the Iraqi police taking over once cities are cleared. Once all the guns are out of the hands of those who would use them to hamper Democracy, and the Iraqi police are secured in every town, the military leaves and political advisors come to help secure the government. Secritarian violence would be limited as they would have no weapons to use. After a few months, the U.S. would only have to have a limited presence and the Iraqi's could be left to run there own country.

put the new saddam in control, help him get the shiite resistance down to manageable levels. let the sunni gulf states start moving in to guard the oil and keep the iranians out. start pulling out the troops. bush could live with this, saudis continue to control oil supply, exxon continues record profits.

Leave. Not let the door hit us in the A*s as we go.
What a crying shame this has all been.
We should all be ashamed of what we've let America become.
