I started writing in one on march 17th, 2007.
It was because that was the day my boy friend of many yrs. had a major heart attack. And the Doctors thought that he was soppose to die.
So I started writing so I could remember the Dr's the nurses, And what they did, or didn't do, who came to see my sweety. And then after about 6 weeks. I quit writing in it.
I thank God that my sweety is doing great today.....

I've journaled since I was 17. My dad recommended it. I have never let an entire week go by without jotting down at least a few notes. I'm now 45, so I have several boxes full of books. [I use black hardcover sketchbooks from Aaron Brothers.]
I don't write for posterity -- that would be too self-conscious, and I'd avoid writing down the more unhappy/disturbing things. After I'm gone, I obviously won't care if someone reads them.
With nearly 30 years of entries, it's really astounding to go back and read stuff I wrote years ago -- it is just so much more immediate than old photographs. It's so wonderful and sad [simultaneously] that we go through transitions in our lives. My youth just seems like an entirely different lifetime. Oh, and I only read past stuff every couple of years -- there's no sense in living in the past.
I'm pleased to have turned a few people on to journaling.

I have a diary. I write about whatever happened to me during the day but mostly whatever idea is plaguing me the most. I also include some pictures I've drawn or sketches. But for the most part it's strictly a diary. I write so that I can look back at a certain time in my life and see how I was feeling or see my rational; it helps not feel guilty or regret the choices I make if they end up badly.

I wrote back in my teens and all through med school. When it became a monotonous obsession I stopped. There was a point I would write about each and everything and to the point of obsession. In retrospect, much of what I wrote made sense back then. Now I just respect the fact that not everything can be penned down. Some things in life are meant to be lived not chronicled. But back then I wrote about my grudges, my crushes and basically each event and each character in my life as and when they chanced to happen. Most of my journals have a sombre unhealthy tone.

I have several journals, I write in different ones according to my moods, and honestly I have no particular guidlines, I just pick whichever journal I feel most attracted to at that moment. I usually write about my life and what's happening in it and how I feel, especially when I'm down. I also write like I want people to know who I was and what I went through

I've written in journals and diaries most of my life (I'm in my 40's now). I currently keep a blog over on wordpress.com that is essentially my diary. I've had two blogs in the last five years. Sometimes, though, there are things that I don't want the public to read, so I still keep a journal offline.

Yes, I have a journal. I started writing in it since I was a teen. I usually write poems, songs, quotes, or whatever is on my mind that day.

When I was a teen I wrote in my diary but now I feel I should burn them. Too much personal information-It was hard for me to read what I had written. There were good and bad times. Honestly I think maybe I need one now, LOL
whew-just thinking about it makes me tear up

No, I don't. I tried it once while taking a bible study class. It was recommended as one way to study. I loved the study but didn't like journaling even though I like to write. Go figure.
