i had my car on neutral and press the gas all the way down and then shifted to drive. and the car sounded like something got stuck and it would not move after that. When i changed gears and pressed the gas the engine would sound but the car would not move and when i put it in park the car made this wierd crackling noise. I have a 97 ford explorer.
I was being an idiot trying to do a burnout....
can someone please let me know what is wrong with the car and about how much it will cost to fix??? please and thank you

yes you are an idiot, first of all if you are so "unskilled" you cant even drive a manual transmission, there are better ways to do a burnout in a automatic transmission for instance, holding the brake, that way you dont tear the transmission out of your car (which s exactly what you did, i hope your proud of yourself)

You shifted from neutral to drive while pressing the gas all the way down??? Sorry, but that's a stupid thing to do and is almost guaranteed to break something. It is most likely the transmission that you damaged. You probably broke one or more gears. Try putting the car in 3, or 2 and see if it moves. Since drive puts it into first gear that's most likely the gear you broke. So try skipping 1st by putting it on 2nd or 3rd. If none of those work, then it could also be the flywheel or clutch that you damaged. But the only way to know for sure is to take it to a mechanic.

Worst case scenario is you stripped the teeth off of your first gear. With no forward motion with the engine running and the tranny in gear you have to have some mechanical damage inside the gear box. (Transmission)
There is little you can do but throw yourself at the mercy of a trusted transmission shop. You can expect to spend at least $500 to drop the tranny and pull it apart and replace what is broken. Complete rebuilds can run $1,200 to $2,400. You might think about a swap and drop by getting a rebuilt tranny from your local auto parts store.
Keep your fingers crossed. You may have just broken the linkage which is either a cable or some metal rods that connect the shfter to the tranny.
Good Luck!

Without actually hearing the car I can only guess but it sounds a lot like you threw a rod. You should never rev a car as far as you can without it being in gear and then just drop it in gear like that...it's to hard on the engine.I'm sorry for you if you did it will cost a lot to fix. Call a mechanic and ask him whats up. **by the way if it's a stick if you want to spin your blacks all you had to do was leave it in gear with the clutch in(then pop the clutch out) the tires would have spun. Auto tran is even easier just stand on the brake and rev while the cars in gear then take your foot off the brake**
Good luck

You might have spun the splines off the reaction shaft to your tranny. You may have destroyed the tranny pump. I would look into getting another transmission. It is definantly broke. My bet is you have many many jiblits of metal in your tranny pan. next time try adding some horsepower before you try a burnout. You might want to ask someone how to burnout too.

Hi,
there is a problem with you transmission due to sudden rev of the engine and you tried to move the torque to the gear box..this might have affected you transmission system badly.Try to contact a good mechanic.

It's tranny time.
Since you have more dollars than sense, ask for the racing transmission so you can do burnouts.

You have wasted your tranny, you're looking at 3000-5000 for a repair. Hope you learned what not to do when you get a new tranny.
