Absolutely! And many people do just that when they hand their control over to a spouse a religion or whatever. Cults on the other hand tend to entice, coerce and brainwash people into giving up that freedom of thought as well as their money, family and friends.

Yes. It's called conformity.
And we do it all the time.
And it's not just related to cults.
It's also related to marketing, advertising, media and persuasion.
Society is a cult.
Why do so many people want an iPhone?
Why do so many people own TVs?
Why do we buy brand name clothes?
It's not just because we think the advertising is cool, it's because we think that it would make us cooler in the eyes of others.
People hide in fear to be different and think differently.
But then again, that's assuming an individual is free to do anything.

I feel our way of life is a cult, think about when you become a christian you give up your normal way of thinking and acting to take on what we consider Gods way. When we become educated we change our way of thinking and living, we call it improving our way of living and life style, When people go to the army, they do as the army direct them to do. When ever you make a change in your life, you are giving up some thing and it could be consider a form of freedom. And we are free to give up the old thoughts to improve life or to just do nothing in life, because a cult is adapting to a way of life through teaching and repetition same as the above. (Just my feeling on the suject, I maybe of base also).

Yes, an individual can decide not to think for themself and instead let others think for them. Its rediculous that people do that sort of thing too. Every person as the freedom to think what they want AND the freedom to let others do the thinking for them...

the individual is free to enter in to a condition where he simply "needs" to give up his freedom of thought.

Yes - people do it all the time - and it don't have to be a 'cult'. There are enough religions

i think that if that person let them take from him then he is giving it up.Freedom of thought is what we do every Milli second of our lives and to give that away,is like erasing your existence. If a person wants to join a cult ,do so but on your on terms not theirs, do it because you believe in it but never let it take your soul but instead make it a part of your life
