They can be, or not, depending on the type of system and materials used. if the usual thing, some fittings and glue from a home improvement store and a little work with a shovel will fix it right up. If it's an older system, it may be a bit of a hassle. Some ingenuity should handle it though.

The sprinkler head needs to be replaced, it is cheap and easy to do. Go to Lowes and buy the equivalent head (pop ups are about $3 and rotary heads are about $12). Dig the head up, unscrew it and screw the new one on. Turn the system on and adjust the head. I say Lowes because they sell Rainbird products. Rainbird makes decent heads, Home Depot sells Toro, which is a waste of money. If you can find Hunter heads, they are good.

many of the inground sprinklers have a screw on head. Depending on what you have the pop-up head may just unscrew from the body , or you may have to remove some dirt from around it and remove the entire head.

You should be able to get a replacement head at most places like Lowe's or Home Depot; they should be fairly straight-forward to replace.

go to Lowes. They have pamplets and books on how to do this. They have all the parts too... and as they say "Lowes Knows" .....(just dont ask them in Mi.)
