Because they want the cat to be there. It's been a blessing for the families of those who the cat has predicted death for. The families get to be there and say goodbye, when otherwise they wouldn't have. They let the cat run around the nursing home because they want it to. Cats, and most animals as a matter of fact, have a very calming nature about them. I'm sure the people of the nursing home are quite happy to let the cat roam around freely if it is going to bring a little bit of relief to people in their last moments.

It has been medically tested and proven that stroking a cat can lower your blood pressure and stress level. They've also discovered that puppies can do a better job of bringing older people out of depression than pills.

Also, all the residents recieve visits from the cat that senses death. To be visited, then left so another can be visited has become a very positive thing as the people visited, but not cuttled up to, believe they are safe from death for another day.
Ain't Nature Wonderful?

Cats have been with humans for thousands of years. What you are talking about is that you don't want a cat around a baby. The cat smells the milk on the baby and can smother the child. Cats have proved to protect us from rodents and snakes. If you want to live with rats and mice, go ahead. I prefer the most loving of animals, the cat.

i have 6 cats and none of them suck souls.
they do however have an air of grace , calm . and dignity about them. which would make them the ideal guide in your last moments.
animals have open hearts and therefore see a lot more than we do.
as for it being a health risk of any kind , its a point but its also remote.
look at what they do at this place . people like to see animals . especially when ones brain is making communication more and more of a task. often words are not needed in the human -animal exchange.

Just one final comment to add to all of the...ahem...wisdom above me. Not everyone in a nursing home is taking his or her last rattling breath of life.

Some people (believe it or not) live for quite some time in nursing homes and would want a cat around for the same reasons you or i might - a bit of company maybe?

Maybe they want to lighten the load a little. You know who's going to believe a cat can suck out your soul? Can you imagine a cat being brought to trial or maybe he's being used kinda like a murder weapon.

I have never heard about a cat sucking your soul... I have recently heard however that opposing the popular theory, white cats can be used by witches to act as a spy or something...

Don't believe they suck out your soul, but now its known that it comes to dying people, I think everyone in the home will panic when they see the cat coming.

I was wondering the same thing. Also, wouldn't the cat make some of the people's allergies suffer, and what happens if someone is allergic to cats?
