DVM or UTF

There are a lot of things you need to take into account when picking dividend stocks: payout ratio, dividend growth, etc. Let the fund(s) do the legwork for you.

You might try oil trusts:

For example:

Harvest Energy (HTE)
Prudhoe Bay (BPT)
Sabine Royalty (SBR)

Or tanker companies:

Frontline Tanker (FRO)

Or amusement parks:

Cedar Fair (FUN)

Note that while all of these stocks pay excellent dividends, do your background research to make sure they'll be able to continue paying them! I'd check out Harvest Energy first. The one possible drawback I know about for that stock is that the Canadian govt is considering changing its tax laws to increase taxes on trusts-- though as you'll see the dividend can go down quite a bit and still be attractive.

US stocks I'd recommend are Altria (MO), American Capital Strategies (ACAS), and maybe Bank of America (BAC).

With BAC, you might wait a few more days or weeks to see if the current market turmoil subsides. Investors are afraid of financial companies like BAC right now, but I think it is still good.

I like oil trusts too & my favorite Canadian stock is Canetic Resources (CNE). 14.4% yield!!

Try XOM -- Exxon goes up every year and pays a good dividend.
