It almost sounds like "Rip Van Winkle," except for one thing. You say the man slept for a hundred years. Rip only slept for twenty years. When he awakes, his wife is dead, his children are all grown (and his daughter has a child of her own), and it's an elderly woman who was his neighbor is the first to recognize Rip. Had he slept for a hundred years, all these people would be long since dead.
I'm one hundred precent positive on what I'm saying because I was had to check one of my copies of Irving's "The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon" Friday to help me answer a another question someone asked on both "Rip Van Winkle" and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow."
