It is a little awkward to handle by yourself. Just let the pro's do it and be done with it. When they did mine, I don't think it was all that much to have them do it. I was thinking it was something more like 100 or 150. good luck.

If you have a minimal amount of skill, replacing a garage door should not be a major problem. It will go much better if you have someone to help you (as opposed to by yourself), but if you have the time it might be worth saving $300. Plan on taking about half a day, if everything goes well should be much less.
If your existing door has torsion springs (the kind that wind up around a bar at the top of the door instead of the stretchy ones at the end of the track), they are under tension and can be very dangerous to remove. This type of spring can also be dangerous to install if you do not know what you are doing. Some newer models come with a winding system that makes them safer for DIY projects. You wind these units with a power drill.
Other than the spring issue, not too bad. Read the directions first and make sure you have all of the parts before you take the old door down.

Removing the old door is not hard, the hardest thing about replacing a garage door is the spring, they can hurt you ! The load put on the spring,to make the door go up and down is hundreds of pounds, when loosening go slow a little at a time.

It really is worth the $300 to have an reputable Garage company repalce the door.
They have the correct tools.
The can dispose of the old door for you.
They will ballance the door so it opens and closes easily, and evenly.
There will be a guarantee.
Good Luck.

It's really not hard. I have bought them at home improvment stores several times and did it myself. Just follow the instructions that come with the door and be careful with the springs. If you are somewhat handy, it's about 4 hours the first time.

I do my home home repair and I also contract out. I would never touch a garage door that has a spring on it. If you don't have the proper tools for that, it can kill you about as dead as y ou are going to get.
