I would say they are surprised by the light, noises, and extreme exhaustion from the major ordeal they just went through

First breath...Uncomfortable new sensation. So they cry, not knowing what else to do..I don't really think their senses are real developed as far as thought and smell. They are probably not hungry since they have been constantly fed through the cord.

Too much light and sound. Cold, yes. Air must seem awfully uncomfortable after floating in body temperature fluid for nine months.

i think it's the fact that they've been curled up in there for nine months and then bam! they can stretch their arms and legs out.
so they're like ouch this hurts. since it's the first time they can move and stretch.

i think cold my baby was cry so hard as if she like it better in my womb.
