I was just wondering if anyone knew what college major(s) would allow a person to get a high-paying job after graduation and what would that/those job(s) be?

I know a person should do what they want to do and money doesn't matter, but I am curious. Thanks.

The reason I'm asking is I WANT to do what I'm passionate about, but my college won't let me. I play an instrument they don't teach (accordion) and dont even want me to become a music composition major just because they dont consider me musically talented JUST because I play an instrument they dont teach! Its ridiculous! They told me I need to choose another major. Im not interested in anything else and I KNOW I wont be passionate about anything else. Ive experienced other subjects during high school. So this is why Im asking.

it depends. do you plan on going to graduate school law school or Med school? if none of this is in your plans. choose a career in computer science or engineering thats were you can make good money without going to any of those schools after you graduate.

There are high paying jobs in all majors. The key is to pick a subject matter that you find interesting. The best way to excel at any career is to work in the one you love and be passionate about. If you don't pick something that you are passionate about you will most likely not excel and be in the top income ranks of that major. Dream, reach, and achieve and you will make your income goals!

It also depends on your emphasis, and what types of skills you gain during your education. For instance, I'm an English major, and the choices of emphases in English are Literature, Teaching, Writing and Technical Communication. Of those, I chose Technical Communication, to improve my chances of getting a higer paying job, and because the demand for that emphasis is great. By doing so, I will have a good job, be hireable, and still have the chance to study what I enjoy.

In the short run, I think engineering majors seem to pay the most. Those jobs, though, don't seem to increase dramatically in pay over time, and given that a lot of bio majors go on to med school and become doctors, and poli sci majors go on to law school and become attorneys, those may end up paying more over time.

There probably isn't one best major (I think there are a lot of high-paying jobs in lots of majors--you just have to get the right job). I can tell you that majors in humanities and social science areas are more likely to get you the least money, at least if you have only a Bachelor's degree. An education degree won't get you much money.

Well, teaching is definitely not the answer. I don't make a lot of money, but I do love my job. Maybe you should look at which college majors would allow a person to live a happy, satisfying life, and enjoy their vocation. Money is not everything.
