I live in a small town (population of about 1000) and i'm just wondering does anybody know what the ratio of gay men is? I know that it's a stupid question but I feel like i'm the only homosexual in the community...

The question is general and doesn't refer to a particular town!

I know how you feel. I grew up in a small, rural town of about 500. And I, too, felt like I was the only one. Now, many years later, there are 3 or 4 who are out, but a few others who remain in the closet. And probably a few more who remain in total denial.

Statistically, about 10% of men are homosexual. However, bear in mind that most that can will leave those small towns and head to some urban area where being gay is more easily experienced and more accepted.

Below you'll find a site with a directory of 150 LGBT Community Centers nationwide. Perhaps there's one near you. It does help when you don't feel so alone.

I heard that gays make up about 10% of any population.

1000 divided by 10 = 100

Break it down to genders and there would be about 50 gay men in your town of any age. Who would all probably be in the closet because its such a small town.

Well, I can bet ya' there are plenty, some of them probably married... If it's a small, close-knit community I think they are less likely to express themselves... Surely there has to be some kind of place for you to meet like-minded individuals... keep looking and I wish you luck!! Don't give up, or at least move if you find a limited gay community... xoxoxxo

You can be sure that you are not the only gay person in town. But, it would be impossible to give you a "ratio" unless you're prepared to go door to door collecting data and everyone gives you an honest answer.

A lot more than U think... Small towns really try to hide homosexuality. Just be careful, someone will show up.
Good luck

one in ten, you might feel like you're the only one because it's a small town and if someone were to come out it would be on the front page newspaper, I'm sure a lot of them are in the closet too.

What are you asking us for? You live there. Ask them yourself. Open up a gay bar and see how many of the local stop by. Run and ad in the paper. Go door-to-door taking a survey. I guarantee that regardless of what type of action you take there, it will be a lot more definitive than anything you'll get from here.
