Unfortunately since NIS 2005, the program needs to uninstall itself.

If you have a password protected administrator account and you forgot the password it is a serious pain even for a guru to get rid of the program. Even with knowing all passwords the program does not completely uninstall all of its DLLs. Their references need to be removed from Windows registry before other programs such as AOL or McAffee can be installed.

I know this sounds harsh, but your best bet to get rid of this hellacious program is to save all of your data and reinstall Windows.

I since NIS 2006 I have sworn off this program. It is way too invasive and is only as good as the competition.

Sorry for the bad news. But I would love to see if someone else comes up with a less drastic method to get rid of NIS.

Did you mean that once in the control panel you tried removing the program from the norton icon, ot from the add/remove programs? If from the Norton icon, try this - go to control panel and then add/remove programs. Once there, simply remove the Norton program. I think that should do it ( i have never had any problem removing norton and I have to do it quite often in my line fo business). But you wrote that you went to the control panel to remove it? So if you have tried this, and no good, then try this:

Start up you pc in Safe Mode (done by hitting F10 while your PC is starting up) and select safe mode. Then go back to my step one, and all should be fine. Good Luck.

Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Then find Norton and click remove. It should delete the file and prevent it from being used. However it is not deleted from your harddrive, so find it in Explorer and press delete there.

Go to start, then control panel then add/remove programs. you will see a list of programs. Highlight Norton and on the right side click on remove. that will delete the application from your PC. I had Norton and it was a pain.

I sure wouldn't remove Norton. You might to first open Norton and carefully review all tabs and options. Your settings might just need a little tweaking to allow IE.
