Its funny you say we will have to wait weeks or months to get the care we need in those countrys. but thats totally false. most people there said they didnt have to wait more than an hour at the hospital before being helped.

The answer as I lived it is that back in the 1960s, shortly after health insurance first began the question of socialized medicine came up. The doctors and medical profession controlled public thinking saying it would decrease the quality of health care. The public went along with that. Now that we are 40 yrs. in the future our doctors are paid more exorbitant salaries than the doctors in any other country, only the very rich can afford to go to medical school in this country and health care costs are so far out of line that people cannot afford their medicines and often their treatments. Some actually opt to die untreated rather than leave their families penniless. On top of that many doctors in the US today came from other countries because of the money, where they received a lesser quality of medical training (not lesser in all countries) and that has actually lowered the quality of medical care people receive.

We are not a socialist government .
We'd hate to depend on our health care being run like the Postal System ; the DMV , or any other government controlled agency . A certain someone in the Clinton White House couldn't even handle Health Care Reform..think of being sick and waiting weeks ; mos. or days - or waiting in line for 3 days ..The government is in our lives much more than they need to be now , as it is .

I agree that the health care system in the US needs major help. Most Americans (like myself) can't afford health insurance and their jobs don't always offer it. However, I met a Cuban woman this springand I asked her about the medical coverage for women with breast cancer (I help women who've had breast cancer). She told me that the woman would receive cancer treatment and a mastectomy if ordered. But, it stopped there. She was not allowed to have a breast prosthesis. How is that fair? They have health coverage, but they lack after care. I have not seen the movie, but the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

As it stands, healthcare in the U.S. is great, provided that you have it. The U.S. system requires that you be an upstanding, and productive member of society, not somebody looking to get a free ride.

Universal healthcare sounds great, but in reality it sucks for everybody. Make no mistake, politicians will never have to rely on it.

Let's take oncology( cancer care) for instance. It's the second largest industry in the WORLD. Second only to big oil.
