Nice question. I am the mother of a Scorpio and an astrologer.
This is the most asked about sign in the zodiac.
I haven't met a dumb Scorpio yet. They may not excel in what we think is right, but they excel in humankind.
The problem is that people keep trying to figure them out. A scorp hates to be figured out. That makes them smart. Hardworking, dedicated to their people and choosy about their friends and who they allow into their space.
I wouldn't call Bill Gates an idiot and he's a scorp. He saw a need and full filled it.
I wouldn't call my daughter an idiot either. She has two college degrees.
No can't see the dumbness in this sign at all.
Blessings

Hmmm...in terms of just raw intelligence, I'd say average. But Scorpios are passionate. When they find something they like or enjoy, they throw themselves into it, teaching themselves to be experts on that topic. So they can come off as highly intelligent. And they seem very intune with people. To a certain extent, it could be a good thing. My one Scorpio friend waited months before she told me that another Scorpio friend of mine bad-mouthed me to her behind my back. The first one knew that it would be easier and better for me if she waited until I was over that situation. Smart and nice girl there. The second Scorpio used the fact that I was insecure from a previous abusive relationship to sabotage the one I was in at the time. Smart, but mean and manipulative. So they can be very smart, they are just more subtle about it.

Hi Catwoman,
Most of the Scorpios I know are deep thinkers. When it comes to intelligence and Sun Signs, it’s hard to say one sign is any smarter than the other as there are to many other factors to consider. With Scorpios and all other signs there will be some who are intelligent and some who are less so. This is an interesting question in that it made me think about different kinds of intelligence and the Sun Signs because I think this is one way to differentiate them from each other. Scorpios are smart in a delving kind of way: they want to investigate and explore and get to the bottom of anything they’re interested in. Geminis, just to try to say what I’m getting at further, are more likely to demonstrate their intelligence verbally: they will enjoy writing, reading, telling stories, doing crossword puzzles. Pisces, a sensitive Water sign understand other people’s feelings and motives and possess an interpersonal intelligence whereas Aries, the first sign of the zodiac are very aware of their own feelings, are positive, confident and self-motivated.

I am a Scorpio too. Yay Scorpios! But seriously. I was always an honor student, most people consider me to be of above average intelligence. My mother is a Scorpio too, however, and barely graduated high school. Ever since I've known her, I wouldn't consider her to be all that bright. (I got the smarts from my Dad's side). I think that intelligence depends upon much more than your astrological sign.

Smart but not so rational. They are perhaps bored too quick by logics to look smart in a debate.
But one thing that i like about scorpios is their aptitude for survival. At one time in my life i was acting quite like a scorpio (i have Uranus in Scorpio) and did not sleep much. Well it was perhaps my most active time and the one during which i terrified the most people, and learned the most things about human nature.

I've met a lot of dumb Scorpio's. But as for my mother and my boyfriend's brother - surprisingly enough they're more intelligent than they look. Although I would prefer to call it intellectual. And above average intelligent, but not extremely.
As for myself, being a Scorpio sun after all, I don't know. Which one of those would I seem like?
