I recently helped a person identify a fish she kept 12 years ago that her daughter taught to swim through hoops (plastic bracelets). All she knew was it was sold to her as a "freshwater dolphin", but the scientific name is Mormyrus tapirus - there's a photo of it in this link, it's the last one in the first group of three photos: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/FWSubWebIndex/mormyrids.htm Another user was asking about these a month or so ago as well. They're not common, but if you contact your local pet store, they might be able to order one.

Really, any of the group (which includes elephant nose and baby whale) are fairly interesting and intellegent, but they can get rather large. They produce a mild electrical current which they use to navigate and find food. They aren't the hardiest of fish, so read up on their needs before you choose to get one.

I have a male Betta that greets me when I walk into my room in the morning. He starts trying to swim in my direction really fast and if I dont feed him when he's hungry, he will flare his gills at me showing his unhappiness for not being fed right away. Hes a pretty cool fish for the money.

Black Knife Fish are amazing and so interesting to watch. The way they move is quite unusual to regular fish and makes them appear mysterious. My Knife fish would feed out of my hand and lay in my hand. However I reccomend not to have this kind of fish with smaller fish. I was reccomended badly when I bought my knife fish and later had to rehome it :(

knife fish are amazing and will keep you entertained. Gourami are very friendly and will eat right out of your fingers. But one of the friendliest fish are twig catfish. not only do they look unique but they will swim up into your hand and suck on it. They actually do have freshwater stingrays. they grow to eat out of your hands in no time at all.

Parrot cichlids will take food out of your hand and make nests and have definite friends. Bamboo shrimp (I know, not a fish) look like they're waving and stuffing their faces. That's just a couple.
