Because that approach (though not comprehensive in its scope) makes a little too much sense. Bottom-line, Bush doesn't want to confuse his political base (not the segment that graduated from Yale, but rather the trailer park crowd - the "you're with us or agin us" crowd). An enlightened approach to America's "Muslim problem" would muddy the waters and confuse people.
Can’t you just see Mr. dyed-in-the wool Republican Joe Six-Pack scratching either his head or his butt asking ….. "Wut?? Do ya' mean som dem mooslims is our friends???"
Ignorance and fear are at the root of many of America's problems. Admittedly, it wasn't 19 Jews or Buddhists who boarded planes and crashed them into the twin towers, but we've got to get beyond that in order to better understand how to REdefine our relationships and engagements with the rest of the world both abroad and on our own shores. Your idea is an insightful first step.

Because he's too busy phuckin' the average American ..........
A surgeon general's report in 2006 that called on Americans to help tackle global health problems has been kept from the public by a Bush political appointee without any background or expertise in medicine or public health, chiefly because the report did not promote the administration's policy accomplishments, according to current and former public health officials.
Three people directly involved in its preparation said its publication was blocked by William R. Steiger, a specialist in education and a scholar of Latin American history whose family has long ties to President Bush and Vice President Cheney.
Steiger, 37, is a godson of former president George H.W. Bush and the son of a moderate Republican who represented Wisconsin in the House and hired a young Dick Cheney as an intern. The elder Bush appointed Steiger's mother to the Federal Trade Commission in 1989.

It sounds like a good idea but, I think many of us are going to have a problem trusting anyone for a while. Maybe forever.
I mean, we let some of these people into the U.S. to take part in our society and they not only deceived us, they killed a few thousand of us, in a very horrible fashion.
If there were 19 then, how many are here now?

In a recent study, we learned that about 85% of Muslims say they certainly understand why the terrorists are doing what they do.
Who would we look to to assure the rest of the Americans should relax because all muslims aren't bad?
By the way, how do you know that no government representatives have asked this of the Muslim community?

That seems like a good idea. Congratulations. How to get it into action is the question. But congratulations, seriously.

do you really believe they care about doing anything other than fomenting a religious war in the mideast as an excuse to perpetuate war for profit?
