If it is cold I would say choke but in the summer I am placing my bets on the accelerator pump. Real easy to change. you may want to get a carb rebuild kit as I bet on an 84 it would do worlds of good.
the reason it is better when hot is a word called expansion and the seals on the carb close up when it warms up.

Ya to make sure you get it right rebuild the carb. Any auto parts store has them. be sure to check the float levels as this may also be a culprit causing the stumble by not having enough fuel in the bowl.....The kit usually come with brief instructions but the manual for the year truck in question will for sure have the tolerances and good directions...

If if still has a carb. I would suspect maybe the choke is opening too soon or you have a bad accelerator pump.

Sounds like an ignition tuneup. Also check the timing and check for vacuum leaks.

Is the choke out of adjustment? It may be running too rich.
