Not if they have any sense at all...doing so would result in a Republican landslide in 2008. BUT...from what I've seen lately they may well administer the lethal political blow to themselves...as usual.

Hillary Clinton when nominated will all have the backing of the Democratic party because they will have no choice in order to be in the White House.

i agree with your lack of confidence in the south and midwest. i don't believe that certain people would vote for her-- simply because she is a woman, which is a long shot from the traditional presidential candidates.
