If you have them in the main tank and not in a breeder she will still try to eat them
I personally prefer to leave the females in the main tank because they are not as stressed
Get some live plants where your fry can hide, and you will always have some surviving ones
Also expect that your female might have some more babies in a month or so, they are livebearers and can store sperm for up to 6 months

Hope that helps
Good luck

Both were probably females just one was carrying sperm they can store it for more than a year, they give birth to live young so yea. Trust them but not all.
