System of equations

1) 4y - 3x = 5

2) (3/4)x = y - 4
-y + 3x/4 = - 4 {rearrange}
-4y + 3x = - 16 {multiply by 4)

Add this and equation 1

4y - 3x = 5
-4y + 3x = - 16
--------------------
0y + 0x = - 11

This tells you that the lines do not intersect - have no common point

If you solve each equation for y, you will see that they have the same slope - are parallel

Well if you are saying that x =3/4, then the answer is this...

4y-3((3)/(4))=5

4y-(9)/(4)=5

4y=(9)/(4)+5

4y=(29)/(4)

(4y)/(4)=(29)/(4)*(1)/(4)

y=(29)/(4)*(1)/(4)

y=(29)/(16)
but if x is not 3/4, then you have to tell us what y=? and what x=? this problem has to have a variable for y or either x in order to be solved. So if x=3/4 then the answer is above.... I hope this helped!

(3/4)x=y-4
y=(3/4)x +4

4y-3x=5
4[(3/4)x +4] - 3x =5
3x + 16 - 3x = 5
16=5

4y - 3x = 5
(3/4)x = y-4
so
3x = 4y - 16
or
4y - 3x = 16 and 4y -3x = 5 impossible: so NO Solution

y = (3/4) x + 4
4 [ (3/4) x + 4 ] - 3x = 5
3x + 16 - 3x = 5
Something wrong with question I think!

2007-08-04 08:14:34 · answer #7 · answered by Como 7 · 0 0

4y - 3x = 5
4y = 5 + 3x
y = 5/4 + 3/4x

y - 4 = 3/4x
y = 4 + 3/4x

5/4 + 3/4x = 4 + 3/4x
3/4x - 3/4x = 1/2
0 = 1/2

(3/4)x=y-4
y=(3/4)x +4

4y-3x=5
4[(3/4)x +4] - 3x =5
3x + 16 - 3x = 5
16=5

...somehow i think someone went wrong here

The lines are parallel. m1 = m2 = 3/4. No solution

Ok, so
4y -3x=5
y=3/4x+4 so
4(3/4x.+4)-3x=5 ------------------------------------ 4 times 3/4x=3x
4 times 4=16
3x-3x +16 =5
16=5
wait...........I don't think I did that right.......
