For about 3 weeks now my fish has been swimming on his side, looks like he has lost the use of some of his fin. At first I thought he was dying, however its been 3 weeks now and he has not died neither has his fin or whatever is wrong with has gotten better. Do you know what could be possibly wrong with my Betta fish? When I watch him swim I feel sorry for him.

Sounds like a trauma that didn't heal properly to me. You are right, a disease that did that much damage would have killed the fish within 3 weeks.

Its possible that the fish is just adjusting to the tank. When i got my clownfish it did the same thing swimming on his side for the first 2-3 weeks at the top of the tank. Once he warmed up to the tank it started exploring more. If it hasnt died in 3 weeks it most likely isnt a disease. If the fish doesnt begin acting more normal then i would agree with MM where it could be trauma that the fish never fully healed from.

I'm not sure if my fish ever did that, but they did have a disease called ick a few times. If your fish has any white spots on his fin, or if it seems to be deteriorating away, ick is a possibility. If these symptoms are noticible, a liquid medicine can be bought at the pet store for him that can be put in the water and may help. Unfortunately fish are hard to cure when they are sick. :(

He also may have had a trauma or injury while at the pet store that didn't heal completely, such as being trapped in the net, hurt by another fish, etc. I would suggest describing your problem to a person at the pet store where you got him. They should be able to give you a diagnosis and treatment options. That's what I always did for my fish.

Good luck and send my get well wishes to your fishy! :)

I remember that we had a betta that did that once. The people at the fish store said that it was probably something to do with his swim bladder :( They helpfully didn't give a solution.

I read that you should fast the fish for a few days and try to keep its tank as clean as possible without moving it around. Hopefully things will get better.

If you changed your water most likely its from the chlorine in the water and you need to use more stress coat. I had that happen to me and it took about 6 months for the fish to die they got to where they laid on the bottom until feeding time then they would eat and go lay back down. you can try putting some stress coat in the water every day and see if that will perk him up?

He will ultimately die but in the meantime keep his water clean and continue minute feedings! He may have swim bladder disease! I have never seen one recover!

He's probably dying. I had a beta lying on its side in the tank for 2 weeks, they're tough little bastards
