They can but them anywhere where school supplies are sold(Wal-mart,Dollar store, etc.) And many often go to the Office designed stores like Staples. And professors also can simply go to their Department(Language Department,Math Department, etc.) and simply ask for supplies from there for free.Their are tons of businesses where they can get supplies from as well as order them from many different types of catologs and on line and also teachers often get discounts.

As strange as it may sound most professors are not trained in pedagogy (aka teaching). So to answer the question from 2 perspectives
1. What are some good places to buy/find teaching materials? Office supply stores, local libraries, museums, and research universities. I personally prefer primary documents and direct experience as the best teaching aids, but for many people anecdotal accounts are very beneficial for lesson retention.
2. What the hell is this crap they are presenting? Most professors are hired based upon their knowledge or experience in the particular field. This in no way qualifies them as an experienced teacher. Often times the argument is made (I somewhat agree with the perspective) that learning is the result of the students involvement. Etc. A teacher juggling kittens, while blowing fire from his mouth, and balancing on a pool cue does not mean that the student is paying attention. Learning is something that you make happen, not something that happens to you. This final point is at the root of the educational dilemma. Those that believe learning is something you make happen, do so. Those that believe learning is something that happens to you, many times just wait for it to happen unsuccessfully.
