I think the movie has to be like 5 hours long, its filled with so much action, and every single detail is important. They cant cut out stuff like they did for order of phoenix. That movie sucked, if u put urself in a person who never read the book, u will never understand the movie. What do yall think.

I agree with you that this book has more plot points to cover than any of the first six and it will be a very tough job. Even at 3 hours it will be tough. From a plot point of view, if we don't know about the three items of the Hallows, we won't have as satisfying an ending, but if they need to cut a large chunk out (cutting down on the camping won't help them much) that would probably be the easiest way to go. Besides the scene in the history professor's house, when Nagini erupts from her body might put them into an R rating if they're not careful.

They could also cut the trip to the Bellatrix's vault a lot. It would be sad to miss that, especially since the trio riding on a dragon would be awesome, but from a plot point of view, all we need to see is Harry getting the Horcrux and losing the sword. The stuff that follows at Bill and Fleurs' house can also be shortened a lot. If they slighted Sirius' death, they can slight Dobby's too, darn it.

Or here's a radical idea (it'll never happen, so don't worry): The plot points in Half-Blood Prince are not as difficult to cover. The journeys back into V's life can be covered more easily on film than in a book--they're very visual. So although emotionally it would be great to end the film as the book does on the day of Dumbledore's funeral, if they really wanted to make sure that they covered the last book fully they could pull a "Peter Jackson" and travel into book 7. How about a cliffhanger ending? Wouldn't getting to the end of the wedding be awesome? The last lines could be "The Ministry has fallen. They are coming." Blackout.

Yes, it's radical, but it's theatrical, and if they follow up more quickly with the 7th movie audiences will stick with it (they did for LOTR.) And getting through the first 9 chapters of DH in movie 6 would leave them time to really cover everything else from DH in the 7th film.

Hate this idea? Don't worry. Principal photography on Half Blood Prince begins in Sept., so if they haven't announced it by now, it's not going to happen.

Actually, I understand why some people may complain about the movies, but I've never had a problem with them.

Of course they're going to change things around and cut details (THAT'S WHY PEOPLE SHOULDN'T WAIT FOR THE MOVIES AND JUST READ THE BOOKS INSTEAD). I think that the movies are refreshing takes on certain, specific ideas that J.K. Rowling has put into the books. I mean, we all know that she has creative license, so if she's okay with it, why should we complain?

I loved Order of the Phoenix, the music and the scenes were simply stunning. And the director really took an artistic, and in my opinion, much needed "mature" approach to the Harry Potter movie franchise.

When you've got something like Harry Potter, it's really hard to make it into a movie for young ppl while still satisfying avid readers. There's so much that goes into the books that it's just too much to put in a movie.

The filmmakers just haven't done a good job. It's possible to make a good movie that gets things right without going on for 3 or 4 hours. Take Pride and Prejudice, for example. The new one w/ Kiera Knightely was masterfully done. It captured everything important about the book while still keeping it interesting.

Oh well. I like the movies, but nothing could ever beat the books.

Besides, after seeing the movie Eragon, I'll like almost any movie based off a book. yeesh!

The movies are indeed an insult to what Rowling has accomplished in her books: there's no movie that can truly do any justice to her clever wit, her character development, her use of great narrative elements and tools (like red herrings). It's a romp based on the book, but it isn't canon for a reason.

That stated, when Movie 7 comes out, I did see a lot of long periods of inactivity (waiting at Grimmauld Place, waiting in the tent, waiting everywhere else) that can be summed up in a montage. I thought actually Movie 7 has a lot of fantastic action pieces that they can play off of (Voldemort flying behind Harry in the sidecar was particularly creepy).

The part that concerns me, however, was the jack-up of the ratings for the dramatic deaths of Cedric and Sirius (a well-placed death warranted a PG-13) rating. What concerns me is the rampant deaths this movie will need to project to do justice to the books, and how they can do it without being some sort of bloodbath that normally warrants an R rating.

Rowling said her books were about death and its grim reality, but that doesn't mean seeing it acted out in front of a nine-year-old is going to go over, especially if they've grown somewhat attached to the faces of the actors and actresses playing them. This may be the biggest cut of all: making the deaths "off-screen", though many of the actual death scenes weren't actually seen by Harry anyway.

Yea i completely agree with you!!

Quite frankly i wouldnt mind sitting through a 5 hour movie for each one, as long as they put all the important and funny stuff in!! I was really disappointed with the Order of the Phoenix book as not only did it change the book's perceptions of the scenery and events, but it was also really different to the other 4 movies (which I really love). So it ruined the movie series, as well as being unfaithful to the book. ~I am so disappointed that Hermione's SPEW, "Weasley is our king", the prefect thing (was that the 5th book?) and harry yelling at hermione and ron, then at the end after sirius's death when he yells at voldemort... also they should have emphasised Sirius's death more. in the book he was absolutely devastated... yes in the movie it showed a few secs of harrys outraged face with inaudible dialogue (which i loved.. it was pretty emotional) .. but after that, he seems completely fine. In the book he was so angry and everything...
Basically there are so much stuff i couldnt wait to see in the movie which i wanted to see... even the beginning was nothing like i imagined. ..
Personally i would LOVE the deathly hallows movie to be very long and detailed, but still funny like the 5th movie... and i hope there's a new director! No offense but i think David Yates ruined the movie series for me ...~ But unfortunately i think we all know the DH movie won't be over 3 hours or anything... ~

1: yea you are very right: the movie will need to be very long to incorporate all the details that are all important. Hopefully they figure out a way to put everything in (good luck with that)
2: I actually liked the 5th movie. The cut out alot of stuff, but it was still good (it just made me love the books even more)

True. The movie would have to be really long.
OotP didn't necessarily sucked. It just lacked a lot of good, essential details. I guess that can happen when you can't put over 500 pages of a good book and make it into a great movie of only 2 hours long.

What they should've done with all of the movies is come out in theaters the short version. And then have the DVDs feature extended scenes that are added into teh orignal film that follow the book as closely as humanly possible. That's what they did for Lord of the Rings. The Special Edition DVDs are 4 hours long.

"Prisoner of Azkaban, "Goblet of Fire," and "Order of the Phoenix" all should have been much longer when they adapted the books into movies. In fact the original plan for "Goblet of Fire" was to break the book in half and do two movies to get as much of the book in as possible. But the director of "Prisoner of Azkaban" convinced the director of "Goblet of Fire" that he could eliminate all of the "unimportant" subplots and thus cut down on the size of the movie. In otherwords, get rid of most of the story that explained so much of the book and what happens. And it looks like the director of "Order of the Phoenix" was convinced to do the same thing.

The way things are going, I expect we'll be missing most of the book when both "Half-Blood Prince" and "Deathly Hallows" are released as movies.

First, Deathly Hallows. with an A.

People have been cutting out stuff from the HP films from the very beginning. This will be nothing new. They can cut out alot from when they were on the run, at the Burrow, etc. As long as they do a good job explaining the Horcruxes in HBP, they should be in pretty good shape.

There are a ton of essential things, but also alot of disposable parts.

Given the length of Order, I was very pleased with the film.
