Bonds does not always swing for the fences, it depends on the situation in the game. Many times in the past you will see him just try to make contact to move the runner over. Also, when he has two strikes on him he will cut down on his swing to make contact with the ball.

Ok you watch two games on espn and you think you know everything about the Giants and barry bonds.
First of all Barry Bonds has earned the right to be selfish. He's playing for a last place team, he is 43 years old, and he has more home runs then the entire giants team combined.

Second of all Bonds tries to make solid contact with the ball if its a homer than its a homer. Im sure his 68 hits werent all home runs.

Third of all he gets walked a ridiculous amount of times he only gets about 2 chances a game to make a big hit so obviously he wants to capitalize on his few chances.

Yes I posted a similar question. They are 12 under, and even the ESPN analyst before the game said that his teammates want this homerun madness to be over soon so they can focus on winning some games.

I personally think he might under alot of pressure to hit the homerun & break the record. However, I think he shouldn't let this be his only focus this season. He should still try to just get a hit & play well then obbsess over a homerun. He's being payed to PLAY not break a record. Breaking records & being the best you can be comes along with playing.

No simply because you don't know what's going through his head. He has an uppercut swing that generates home runs. I hate when fans think players are "trying to hit a home run". I think it's more selfish of the fan to assume they know what a player is trying to do. Even so Bonds swing is more condusive to homers than bloop singles... A home run is the best possible result in any at-bat, so again no I don't think Bonds is selfish for "trying" to hit home runs. However him being selfish in general is a whole different issue :P

Yes because he is trying to live up to Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron and he can't because things are different. The bats are wider now and the outfield is closer then when the legends were playing, instead of trying to win the game he is trying to showoff through greed and he is not able to do it. Give him the things Ruth and Aaron had and he would be the worst hitter out there. This man is not playing for love of the sport but to get a nmae for himself is all.

He has the second highest batting average on his team. Add in all of the walks and I think he has one of the best on base percantages in the league. He does try to hit a lot of home runs but that's what he took all of those steroids for and thats what they pay him to do. Even though I can't stand him I've always thought he did a good job of hitting for average and hitting for power.
